ABANTU. Meaning; "People" (Zulu)

Africans. We love our continent, let alone our country, South Africa. We're full of pride surrounding our heritage, passionately 'shouting' the African way of life in our everyday lives.

We love to unite, follow a cause which gives us meaning, especially when supported by our peers.

Now, imagine a brand which encompasses our love for this continent, backed by support for a great cause which stands firmly behind conservation of our animal kingdom, and is supported by one of South Africa's up-and-coming role models, both on and off the field?

Presenting ... ABANTU Gin & Brandy

Two products which form part of the larger FRDM (pronounced freedom) apparel range of clothing, a South African start-up aiming to make a difference.

The initial idea behind FRDM, back in 2016, was to create an opportunity for like-minded individuals who love Africa and her rich wildlife heritage. To have the opportunity to 'give back' by contributing a portion of all funds received through the sale of FRDM's product range to specially selected conservation efforts (including conservation efforts of black and white rhino, cheetah and pangolin).

Initially the ABANTU range has been launched, beginning with the ABANTU Gin followed more recently by ABANTU Brandy.

What's more, the brand receives direct support through involvement by the man himself, needing no introduction, Rassie van der Dussen, Proteas top-order batsman by day and conservation warrior by ... well, day as well, I guess! He's supported by his good friend, sports agent and braai buddy, Chris Cardoso, who provides the backbone to the business while Rassie smashes willow-to-leather around the world as a rising champion for the cricketing world.

Chris and Rassie have a passion for people (ABANTU), as well as nature, and for this reason have the opportunity to channel this appreciation through FRDM while allowing us to share in their journey with each sip of ABANTU enjoyed.

With summer holidays a stone's throw away now's the time to begin stocking up on your favourite tipples to enjoy during the upcoming festive season.

If there are any bushveld lover's out there who can relate, one of my favourite experiences is packing a small cooler box full of ice, throwing a basket onto my passenger's lap with a bottle of gin, tonic, pocket knife and lemon, and heading on a game drive to nowhere. Upon finding a spot to stop and enjoy the scenery, whipping out our basket and throwing ourselves an ice cold gin. Yes please!

ABANTU Gin presents a fresh opportunity not just to try something new, but enjoying a slightly different style of clear gin. In my opinion, forget the flavoured tonics and stick to your good ol'Schweppes tonic. The latter rounds off the experience without detracting from the granadilla, coriander and lemongrass characters which come to the fore with each sip.

As good as it tastes, the overall experience is made that much more satisfying knowing that with each cool sip, you've also directly contributed towards a good cause for nature conservation on our beautiful continent.

If, on the other hand, you're more inclined towards the chest-bulge inducing

aromas of a manly brandy, ABANTU's Brandy is just for you! Splash a 'double' over ice and enjoy neat, or accompanied by a Cola of your choice. Whichever you prefer, the best way to enjoy it is shared amongst a few friends, around a braai or from the back of a bakkie somewhere in the Limpopo, or whatever adventure you may be on at that point in time.

Before you hop on to grab a bottle of each, here's a little something EXTRA SPECIAL for all you Rassie Fans¬†ūüŹŹ

We all love something limited, hand-written or custom made. Well, for a short time only and while stock last a limited quantity of bottles have been exclusively signed by Rassie van der Dussen himself, which are now available for purchase.

Whether for yourself, your cricket-loving, gin totting grandmother, or Rassie-wannabe brother who still opens the batting at each year's family cricket tournament on the beach, there's a few bottles available which will add something extra special to their Christmas stockings this year.

Either way, they're to be enjoyed one sip at a time.

Order now for delivery to your home. I've included a few options available below and directly from www.thewineguy.co.za.
