Wine Review #1 | Ken Forrester Petit Merlot 2019
Ken Forrester Petit Merlot 2019
I've long been a fan of the Ken Forrester Petit Range, partly due to it's consistency quality vs price point, as well as being a stalwart label in the South African wine industry over the past couple of years.
It's a rather commercial label, available almost everything in the retail space. Although in saying that, the Merlot specifically was only recently launched at the end of 2021 to, in my honest opinion, round off the Petit range.
Colour (3 / 3) - Deep ruby
Nose (4,5 / 7) - Initially shyer than expected until a few minutes once it had opened up. Black currant, eucalyptus and touches of spiciness.
Palate (6,5 / 10) - Clean acidity on the entry, followed through by juicy, dark berry flavours, medium-bodied tannin structure and finishing off slow and steady with a hint of mint & plum.
TWG 20 Point Score = 14
TWG 5 Star (⭐) Score = ⭐⭐⭐
A very drinkable little Merlot, unwooded and recommended as an every-day quaffer for your wine rack. Good quality for the price.
